About NewPay

Learn about NewPay's platform positioning, service audiences and unified payment entry value.

About the Platform

1. What is NewPay?

NewPay is a compliant payment and cross-border acquiring service platform for the Laos market. It provides merchants, institutions and partners with QR payments, online checkout, cross-border wallet acceptance, account settlement, merchant management and risk compliance services.

Through NewPay, merchants can more easily accept payments from local users, cross-border visitors and different e-wallet users, and manage transaction queries, refunds, reconciliation and settlement through a unified backend.

2. Who does NewPay mainly serve?

NewPay primarily serves three types of customers:

  • In-store merchants such as restaurants, hotels, convenience stores, attractions, duty-free shops and retail stores.
  • Online merchants such as e-commerce platforms, ticketing platforms, travel service platforms, games and digital content platforms.
  • Institutional partners such as banks, wallets, payment service providers, public service platforms, government public-service platforms, travel-service institutions and large enterprise customers.

3. How is NewPay different from a regular payment QR code?

Regular payment QR codes usually support only one wallet or one account. NewPay works more like a unified payment entry, helping merchants connect multiple payment methods while providing transaction management, refunds, reconciliation, settlement and risk control capabilities.

For merchants, NewPay's value is not simply adding more QR codes. It integrates multiple payment channels, wallets and settlement flows into one unified system.

4. Does NewPay only serve Chinese tourists?

No. Payments by Chinese visitors are an important NewPay scenario, but NewPay is not positioned only as Chinese wallet acquiring.

NewPay serves local merchants in Laos, cross-border visitors, ASEAN wallet users, online platforms and institutional customers, with room to expand more local and international payment methods over time.

Payment Methods and Product Capabilities

NewPay can provide in-store acceptance, online checkout, cross-border wallet acceptance and aggregated API capabilities according to merchant scenarios.

Payment Methods

5. Which payment methods does NewPay support?

Depending on merchant scenarios, NewPay can support in-store QR payments, online checkout, static and dynamic QR acceptance, payment-code payments, cross-border wallet acquiring and bank-card related payment capabilities. It can also support account settlement and fund disbursement services for platform merchants.

The specific supported wallets, cards or payment methods depend on NewPay's current service scope and the merchant agreement.

6. Does NewPay support WeChat Pay, Alipay+ and UnionPay?

NewPay can provide merchants with acceptance capabilities for mainstream cross-border wallets and payment networks, including WeChat Pay, Alipay+, UnionPay and Cloud QuickPass.

The scope, transaction scenarios and settlement rules for each payment method may vary by merchant type, industry category, partner bank, wallet rules and regulatory requirements.

7. What is in-store QR payment?

In-store QR payment means consumers pay in a store by scanning the merchant's payment QR code with a mobile wallet, or the merchant scans the consumer's payment code.

Applicable scenarios include dining, retail, hotels, attractions, transport, convenience stores, duty-free shops and other offline consumption scenarios.

8. What is online checkout?

Online checkout is the unified payment page or payment API that NewPay provides for online merchants.

After consumers place an order on a website, app or H5 page, they can be redirected to a NewPay payment page and choose a supported wallet or payment method. Merchants can use one unified interface for order creation, payment queries, refunds and reconciliation.

9. What is an aggregated payment API?

An aggregated payment API means merchants only need to integrate NewPay's unified API to accept multiple payment methods according to business needs.

This reduces the technical cost of separately integrating different wallets, banks and payment channels, and makes it easier to add more payment methods later.

10. Can NewPay support both online and offline integration?

Yes. NewPay can provide both in-store acceptance and online payment APIs according to the merchant's business type.

For example, a travel company can use NewPay payment QR codes in offline stores and integrate NewPay online checkout on its website or mini program. Transactions and settlement can then be managed in one place.

Merchant Onboarding

From material submission and review to live payment acceptance, merchants can choose the right activation path according to their operating scenario.

Merchant Onboarding

11. How can merchants integrate with NewPay?

Merchants can contact the NewPay service team, submit basic materials and complete merchant onboarding review. After approval, NewPay will activate the appropriate payment products based on merchant type and provide payment QR codes, a merchant dashboard or API integration documentation.

The typical process includes submitting application materials, completing merchant review, signing a cooperation agreement, configuring payment products, completing testing or training, and going live for acceptance.

12. What materials do merchants need to prepare?

Merchants usually need to prepare basic merchant or company information, a business license or operating permit, and identity documents for the responsible or authorised person. They should also prepare store or business scenario descriptions, settlement account information and contact details.

If a merchant belongs to a special industry, NewPay may request additional materials according to compliance and risk-control requirements.

13. Can individual merchants use NewPay?

According to local regulatory requirements and business rules, NewPay can provide acceptance services to eligible micro merchants or individual operators.

NewPay encourages merchants to use real, compliant and verifiable operating entities and settlement accounts, reducing personal QR codes, third-party collection and non-standard acceptance behavior.

14. Does integrating NewPay require development?

It depends on the selected product. If it is in-store payment QR acceptance, complex development is usually not required and merchants can use it after onboarding.

If it is online checkout, app payment, API integration, automatic reconciliation or split settlement services, the merchant's technical team usually needs to integrate the system. NewPay can provide API documentation and technical support.

15. Which industries is NewPay suitable for?

NewPay is suitable for hotels, dining, retail, convenience stores, tourist attractions, travel agencies, transport, duty-free shopping, e-commerce platforms, ticketing platforms, online entertainment, digital services, public service payments and institutional cooperation scenarios.
